August 13, 2005 2:37 AM Reconciling Faith vs. Science Action Ong posed an interesting question at his birthday party tonight. Intelligent design or Evolution. Now here comes the rant.... My problem is... 1) Polarization of all issues in America. Black or White. Good vs Bad. Democrat vs. Republican. And of course the polarization of Science against one's faith in God. Because obviously, if you believe in evolution, you're slapping God in the face. If you believe evolution is a good theory based on sound evidence, then you can't believe God created the Universe and all living things. You can't, it's the rule.... they're mutually exclusive! Everyone knows that! You can't have both! ONE OR THE OTHER! GET IT THROUGH YOUR HEAD! 2) The problem is such, evolution is a scientific theory based on observations, evidence, fossil records, and supporting data. In fact, let's bust some evidence just in case. Look at the bones forming the fore-fins of a whale, and you'll notice that whales have fingers. The commonly held theory is that the whale used to be a land mammal which evolved back into a water animal to fill a niche. In fact there is a fossil record of the blow hole slowly migrating from the front (nose region) to the top of the back (current day whale) in the tracking of one type of cetacean. Then let's bust Tay-Sachs, Sickle-Cell, and Cystic Fibrosis. All of which are deadly if homozygous recessive, but if heterozygous provide huge benefits for the carrier. Sickle-Cell against Malaria, Tay-Sachs against Tuberculosis, and Cystic Fibrosis against Cholera/Diarrhea. And even the damn finches and their funny shaped beaks... On the other hand, intelligent design is based on well.. horseshit! Creationism is based on a book two mellenia old which has been proven to have historical inaccuracies (see Walls of Jericho..) and well full of *gasp* miracles (see Water to wine, feeding the masses, and parting the Red Sea). "I don't believe in Evolution..." That's fine... now propose another theory and then back it up with solid evidence! That's fine I don't care if you believe of not... but back up your position with data, with observations, with evidence. Let's face it. There's not a whole lotta evidence of "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth."(Genesis 1:1) Let's face it... there's just not. (Oh yea for people who think god created the Universe and everything in it, in 7 days... literally 7 days... you're an idiot.. cuz obviously God goes by an Earth day.. you ignorant self-important prick!) And that's why this is FAITH... RELIGION... NOT SCIENCE... Science and Religion are two worlds completely non-comparable. One's based on observations, one's based on faith. 3) The balls that some people have. That they believe that their puny minds are capable of understanding the grand scheme of themes. I was just wondering... did God ever tell us the method he decided to use to create life on Earth... uuhh no... could Evolution be a theory desciribing how we believe life came to pass... uuuhhhh yes... could God have used all of this as a tool.... uuuhhh maybe... AND I DON'T MAKE ANY CLAIM AS TO KNOW WHAT'S GOD'S METHOD OF CREATION IS/WAS... quite honestly I know I'm not smart enough for that. I believe evolution represents the best theory at the moment for the origin of species, and that's what it is, a theory. A theory based on observable evidence. Does it require a little faith. Of course. But once again.. it's just our best guess based on what we can see now. But I haven't seen evidence that God waved his hand.. and out popped every species known to man. Do I believe that God didn't create the universe because I believe this is a good theory... I don't believe they're mutually exclusive. Do I have faith? ..... SURE!
Minus the unicorns and the mermaids, they were pissing God off and they had to go. And for those that don't think God has a sense of humor. Check out the duck-billed platypus. HAHAHAH He's so stupid looking! August 9, 2005 3:05 PM So I eat quite a bit of Mexican food around the bay so I'd like to share a few of my favorites and how they rate.
