Cal

On Monday night the Leonids meteor shower was visible. Overall, it was pretty weak showing. After going up to Chabot to try and get a good look, I maybe saw a total of 3 meteors and then a second trip up to Lawrence Hall of science yielded maybe 2 more.

I was excited though because it reminded me a lot of the last time I saw this meteor shower. The last time was in 2001, when I still lived at 2610 Benny. I remember walking out into the street with our housemates late at night and lying down in the middle of the street to watch the meteor shower. Haha periodically getting up when we saw a car coming down the street.

Even with overtly yellow street lights ruining our nightvision, we were able to see tons of meteors… *sigh* yea, that’s a memory that still makes me smile involuntarily.

As you all have probably heard in the news, the California state legislature wants to put UC under its own control and not as a separate arm of the state government. This is the same Legislature that has run this state into the ground while refusing to pass a budget to balance the ever increasing deficit.

Yes… I think it’s a great idea to let these idiots run our school system into the ground, a school system that year after year continues to be highly ranked in the nation, and world.

The people of California were visionary enough to ensure that our higher education would have autonomy and continue without interference that they wrote it into the state constitution, let’s keep it that way.

So Michelle and I saw the Sun Jar project on Instructables.com and then saw it again on Lifehacker.com and thought it be a fun project to do. Basically they’re canning jars with a solar accent light attached on the inside.

So I put these two together with a Cal twist.

Right in the neck! the neck! the neck!

This pretty much sums it up.

“I’m not big-headed or anything, but we don’t belong on the same field as
those guys,” Williams said. “We’ve got way more athletes than those guys,
we’re more fundamentally-sound than those guys and we’re better than those
guys.
“When we go out and take the field the way we should, they can’t compete
with us. That showed today.”

Congratulations to Obama, who else felt kinda bad for McCain during his concession speech? But seriously screw Palin, dumb ass bitch. I hope she gets gored by a moose.

Anyway here’s the view from the street. img_3223_resize.JPG

This is down on Telegraph and Durant after the elections.

Some idiots climbing up sign posts. I was really tempted to run over and start shaking the polls. We decided to leave after some genius started shooting bottle rockets into the crowd.

Then they started lighting stuff on fire…  At this point it started to look a little too much like India.

O-BA-MA! O-BA-MA!

Hahaha just saw this commercial last night and it has references to The Play and Bubb Rubb. Best commercial… ever

Also while researching where Bubb Rubb was now I found that someone made a DVD of him. Where he talks about life, love, and flying off of his Go-Ped. Damn I love Bubb Rubb.

Also someone should made a BBQ Rub that’s called Bubb Rubb.

Give ‘em the axe!
the axe!
the axe!
Where?
in the oak!
the oak!
the oak!

Judge Barbara Miller has ruled in favor of UC Berkeley in building of the Student-Athlete High Performance Center (SAHPC). The injuction barring the university from cutting down the oak tree grove has been lifted.

The plaintiffs were also ordered to pay 80% of the UC’s legal fees. The plaintiff’s have 1 week to file an appeal.

The East Asian Languages and Cultures is getting 25% of it’s budget cut for next year. This ends up screwing a bunch of students who are 1) interested in a foreign language, 2) future graduate students enrolling in programs requiring a second language, 3) any future potential work/studies with Asia.

This is remarkably short sighted. Please sign this petition.

Anyone can sign, you don’t need to be an alumnus, or a student. Please sign as this is for the good of California and it’s public school system.

Thanks!
